The Means: Intervention and guidance are provided at this critical time in their lives to show the youth a better way. Through friendship ministry, we provide guidance, counseling, vocational education and training, and employment. Light to the City reaches out to all with a helping hand, a caring heart, a will to help, and the tangible means to do so.

Youth Ministry: We employ a Model for Youth Development developed by Search Institute,  adapted to our specific ministry.

The Mission: We believe that the dream, together with the motivation to work for that dream, call us to assist and bring community and leadership to the individual, plus business experience and Christian values.

The Mission of Light to the City

The mission involves carrying-out four essential functions:

The first is Acceptance Outreach. Acceptance outreach is reaching out, going outside the four walls of our building, into the neighborhoods, onto the streets, wherever the people are, wherever they work, travel, congregate, meet together, or socialize. 

The Mission of Light to the City is to find those individuals who have a dream and assist them in developing that dream, in simple terms, making that dream come true. 

But the harsh reality is that many dreams are lost in a competitive, tough and often unforgiving world. So we seek to bring our years of experience in that world to their assistance.

The second step becomes Guidance and Counseling. Here we need to begin the dialogue regarding what exactly is the individual's dream and how can it be realized.  

The challenge is that today many of the youth are already misguided, immersed in and bombarded daily, by the wrong influences: bad personal friendships and a highly commercialized and materialistic society. They have often already begun down the wrong path in their lives and need responsible adult role models and caring, Christian leadership.

Is it a good dream, an appropriate dream, a realistic dream or just a misguided fantasy?

Through the dialogue, we make an assessment and lead the individual into making a structured self-assessment. Through this process, we seek a consensus or agreement, between the individual and the organization, in order to make a specific plan.

A good plan involves many variables: the individual's dreams, talents, motivation, likes and dislikes. Having had many experiences of a similar nature, we can use our resources to ensure that the plan succeeds. LTC Fashion, LTC Clean-up and LTC Construction are examples of this process, all started during the first year of operations of Light to the City. 

Both started with one individual's dream and the motivation to make that dream come true. Holding dreams in our hearts can be a lonely process, but Light to the City brings a caring and experienced community to make the dream a reality.

The third step in the process is Equipping. When an agreement has been reached, wee assist the individual to acquire the resources, education and training necessary to realize the plan.

The preparation in education and training chosen to prepare and equip the individual, depends upon the specific character of the plan. Light to the City will provide this education and training in many cases, or, when necessary, work through outside educational and training institutions.

The final step is to find or develop the Platform. It may be employment – a job – or in many cases, as we have done,  a business enterprise built around the dream. 

We believe that the dream, together with the motivation to work for that dream, call us to assist and bring community and leadership to the individual, plus business experience and Christian values.

Through Light to the City, many can come to realize their dreams, because we put God first in all our plans, procedures and prayers. Because of God’s love for people, we have seen that He will empower and enable them to achieve fulfillment in life, according to His will.
